Having been thwarted by the Covid pandemic, the BEMB Research & Education Trust has finally been able to thank Gareth Griffiths for his amazing 25 years of dedicated service as a Trustee. Gareth retired from his role in October 2020 and whilst all the Trustees sent their thanks via post and email at the time, they always wanted to present Gareth with a gift and thanks in person. Two years later BEMB Trustees Duncan Priestner, Jeff Vergerson and Secretary Ali Bone were able to do that at a special lunch in Shrewsbury. It was also an opportunity to express once again thanks to Aled Griffiths, who also retired after 49 years as a BEMB Trustee in October 2020. Gareth received a gift of two crystal inscribed beer glasses from Welsh Royal Crystal. They were engraved with the words “With thanks for your long service as a Trustee to the BEMB Trust.”

“Sorry to hear that you are retiring from the BEMB Trust, but very understandable. On a more personal note, many thanks for all your help and support, both as a recipient of BEMB Trust support for several PhD students in the past and all your help and support for my short time on the Trust Board with you. Always enjoyed our chats and discussions, especially on IBV. I would also like to thank you and your staff for the excellent visits to your egg production unit for BEMB supported PhD students, especially when we descended in larger numbers than you probably anticipated!!!”

Dr Paul Britto

“A very big thank you for all of your hard work and dedication you have put into the BEMB Trust over the last 25 years. Your expert poultry knowledge has help guide the Trust. Gareth, as a trustee, has helped the BEMB trust be hugely successful in helping young people progress in the Poultry Egg Sector. Not only has the trust help fund dozens of PHD students at the top universities but has also funded pump priming research projects and Nuffield Scholars. Your knowledge and insight of the poultry industry will be greatly missed .Gareth’s accounting background has also ensured that he leaves the trust in a very strong financial position.”

Duncan Priestner

“The BEMB Research and Education Trust is so very sorry to lose your abundant knowledge and considerable expertise from its team as for 25 years you have offered sound advice and guidance on many aspects of our work to support research in to the egg-laying sector. Throughout your tenure you have helped the Trust make the best decisions possible and have been a strong advocate for science that could and should make a big difference to the health and well-being of national egg-laying flocks. I have thoroughly enjoyed your company and the opportunity to work with you for the past nine years or so and all of your colleagues on the Trust look forward to hearing about your future adventures.”

Dr Martin Shirley
Chairman

“It’s been a pleasure working with you on the BEMB Trust.”

Sincerely yours, Jeff.
Jeff Vergerson

“Gareth, a huge thank you on behalf of all for a great 25 years as a trustee on the BEMB. As someone who benefited from the BEMB support on my Nuffield, can I thank you for everything you have done for BEMB. It goes without saying that I wish you all the very best for the future.”
